Carrie Cyela Collins-Whitfield was born and raised in Saint Louis, MO to Carrie G. Collins and Craig Whitfield. She began dancing at the age of three under the direction of Mrs. Pelagie G. Wren. A student of Shaw Visual and Performing Arts CEC School, at 10years of age, Carrie began performing with the St. Louis MUNY KIDS Theater in Forest Park for 7 years later joining the MUNY TEENS Chorus. She continued to student with Nicole “Pinky” Thomas at Pinx Academy of Dance and was afforded the opportunity to dance throughout the St. Louis Metropolitan Area and at the St. Louis Fox Theaters’ St. Louis Public Schools – Night at the Fox.
Carrie has studied at COCA St. Louis and worked with members of the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater and Philadanco Dance Company in an adaptation production of the Nut Cracker: A Hard Nut to Crack. She is founding member of the Inner Vision Dance Theatre’s Youth group and the Banyan Dance Theater.
Currently, Carrie is entering her senior year at Stephens College in Columbia, MO, where she will receive a BFA in Dance in the spring of 2015. Through discipline, motivation, and hard work from her instructors and mentors thus far, Carrie has been chosen to participate in numerous honors programs throughout her college career one of which is the Dimensions Company class offered at Stephens College along with producing and choreographing two amazing works on students of the Stephens Dance Department.
