With a passion and love for dance, we encourage students to follow their dreams to be dancers, choreographers, artists… The Pinx Academy of Dance curriculum challenges young artists to embrace all forms and aesthetics of dance and learn from the rich cultural traditions of the dance styles. Students’ study with master teachers and choreographers of Ballet, Tap, Modern, Jazz, African, Hip Hop, Dunham Technique, Belly Dance, Caribbean and Majorette styles with special seminars and workshops offered monthly.

We motivate and inspire students through the development of outstanding dance technique, group cooperation, and a positive atmosphere. We provide an environment in which aspiring dancers and choreographers can develop works without committing prematurely to a single dance style.

WAIVER/INJURY RELEASE & ADDITIONAL RELEASES

I hereby release and indemnify PINX ACADEMY OF DANCE and their staff of any and all liability, claims, and causes of actions arising out of or in any way connected with my child’s/my participation in the classes offered by PINX ACADEMY OF DANCE. Further, I authorize PINX ACADEMY OF DANCE staff and faculty to seek emergency help and agree to allow any medical personnel the opportunity to treat an illness, injury, or any other medical condition. I agree to accept responsibility for any medical costs which may result from my child’s/my participation.

I consent to my child’s/my visual image to be used by PINX ACADEMY OF DANCE in general promotion of its programs.

I have read the releases and indemnification agreement and understand its meaning. Being fully aware of these risks, I hereby consent to my child’s/my participation in the PINX ACADEMY OF DANCE program.

What do I need for class?

3-4 Years Old Combo

  • Solid Light Pink Leotard (Tank, Cap or Long sleeve)
  • Solid Light Pink Dance Tights
  • Pink Ballet Slippers (house shoes or ballerina style street shoes are not allowed)
  • Black Patton Leather Tap Shoes
  • Solid Pink short ballet skirts may be worn in class (No Tutu’s please)
  • Pink Leg warmers (optional)

5-7 Years Old Combo

  • Solid Lavender Leotard (Tank, Cap or Long sleeve)
  • Solid Flesh Colored Dance Tights
  • Pink Ballet Slippers (house shoes or ballerina style street shoes are not allowed)
  • Black Patton Leather Tap Shoes
  • Solid Lavender short ballet skirts may be worn in class (No Tutu’s please)

8-13 Years Old Combo

  • Solid Burgundy Leotard (Tank, Cap or Long sleeve)
  • Solid Flesh Colored Dance Tights
  • Pink Ballet Slippers (house shoes or ballerina style street shoes are not allowed)
  • Black Patton Leather Tap Shoes
  • Solid Burgundy or Black dance shorts may be worn in class (Flesh colored tights must be worn under shorts)

  • Clothing should allow for full movement (jeans are strongly discouraged)

Class participants: Please download and complete a copy of the Student Info and Waiver.

Required class attire may be purchased through the Academy. See instructor for details.

Alternative shoes should be worn for class during inclimate weather (rain, snow).

Dirty/Muddy or Wet soled shoes will NOT be allowed on the dance floor.

Street shoes are NOT permitted in the front studio.

Nicole “Pinky” Thomas

Academy Director & Principal Instructor

Nicole Thomas is respected in the dance industry as a performer and recognized as an instructor, choreographer and humanitarian.

A native of University City, MO, Nicole is a graduate of Central Visual & Performing Arts High School in St. Louis, MO & received her B.F.A. in dance from The University of Illinois Champaign-Urbana. Introduced to ballet & tap as a young child she trained long and hard and became a member of the award winning Ray Parks Academy of Dance Competition Team. As an adolescent, Nicole began training in Dunham Technique at the Katherine Dunham Center for the Performing Arts, S.I.U.E., and East St. Louis Center under the direction of Theodore Jamison. She expanded her depth of knowledge by studying African, Caribbean, Haitian, Cuban, Capoeira, and yoga techniques. Ms. Thomas has traveled throughout the United States and Europe perfecting her talent. She has studied and worked with companies across the country, among which are the world renowned Katherine Dunham Dance Ensemble – SIUE, Martha Graham Dance Company, Urban Bush Women, The MUNY, Jose Limon Dance Company, Spirit of Angela West African Dance Ensemble, Inner Vision Dance Theatre, CounterGroove Dance Company, Minianka African Drum & Dance Ensemble, and Banyan Dance Theater.

Nicole has appeared in countless stage productions including A Chorus Line, Three Coins in the Fountain, Showboat, and Tap Dance Kid. She has staged musicals across the country such as Fiddler on the Roof, Once Upon this Island, The Wiz, Children of Eden and many more. As an instructor, Ms. Thomas exposes thousands of aspiring dancers & performers to the wonderful world of dance each year. Her passion for sharing is evident through workshops and ongoing residencies with the Missouri Historical Society, Kaatsbaan International Dance Center, Inc., Stages St. Louis-Education Outreach, Girls Scouts of Eastern Missouri, St. Louis Public Schools, International Association of Blacks in Dance, Black College Dance Exchange, Neighborhood Houses, Club CHIPS, and many more.

In 2006, Nicole fulfilled a lifelong dream by opening Pinx Academy of Dance in University City, Missouri, where she offers a comprehensive dance curriculum to students and professionals of all ages. Pinx Academy of Dance offers a culturally diverse environment with knowledgeable instructors from around the world.
